A Texan’s Guide to the State Fair of Texas

Corndogs and concerts and beers, OH MY!

Fall is upon us, and that means many different things here in America’s Heartland: football season, sweater weather and pumpkin spice lattes. Most importantly, it means the State Fair of Texas is just around the corner! So gather up your loved ones, and get ready to have some good ol’ fashioned Texas-sized fun at Dallas’ Fair Park.

This year, you can expect to find Texas’ largest variety of fried foods, creative arts, livestock and so much more. Plus, the Chevrolet Main Stage will be home to more than 75 concerts during the 24-day fair, including performances from Kacey Musgraves, Nelly and Ben Rector.

Do corndogs and funnel cakes make you giddy? Just remember to bring your stretchy pants, because the State Fair of Texas is not messing around when it comes to its assortment of delicious, deep-fried foods. Our top picks—Cookie fries, Chicken Pot Pie Pocket with Mac ’n Cheese Dip and the always popular Texas Fried FRITOS® Pie.

After you stuff yourself silly, stroll on over to the State Fair of Texas Auto Show, where you can check out the largest assortment of new cars (400+ models!) in the Southwest.  Not much of a car buff? Head over to the Big Tex Urban Farm, where you’ll find a sea of more than 100 garden beds that will be producing fresh, organic produce in the heart of Fair Park. Make sure you also check out the amazing Livestock Exhibit, where you can sneak a peek at some adorable calves and baby goats or watch live barrel racing, roping or equestrian drill team competitions.

If you’ve had your fill of fried Oreos and Ferris wheels, wind down at the Wine Garden, where attendees over the age of 21 can sample three to four wines from featured Texas wineries while listening to live jazz and blues performances from Uptown Drifters, Rhett Butler, Fingerprints and The Violin Guy. For all of you craft beer lovers, the Magnolia Beer Garden boasts a large selection of Texas, craft and international beers.
