Washington, the Evergreen State

Whether you are looking for excellent food, beautiful hiking trails, or top-notch excursions, Washington is the place that should be on the top of your visit list. Known as a state filled with what are lovingly termed "granola"-type people, it has everything from vineyards to surfing. On your next charter bus trip, take a look at everything the state has to offer.

Perhaps the best known city of the state, Seattle has a wide array of restaurants, museums, and tourist destinations. Visitors love to ride the inexpensive monorail, originally built for the 1962 Seattle World's Fair. One of it's loading docks is directly beneath the iconic Space Needle, where you can purchase a ride to the top and enjoy a 360-degree view of the city and sound. Down below on the coast, businesses, locals, and tourists alike crowd into the Pike's Place Market to purchase fresh seafood, locally grown flower bouquets, and odd trinkets.

Seattle has an incredible history, as well, and you can join tours of the famous underground portion of the city that was involved in large fire. The Seattle Art Museum has anything from post-modern cubism to classical landscape paintings, and a quaint wooden boat museum is an easy and free place to enjoy right on Lake Union. Coffee fans won't want to miss the very first Starbucks or a taste of one of the many local brews. Water lovers are often spotted on the Puget Sound in kayaks, canoes, or on paddleboards.

On the other side of the state, Spokane hosts a much different but equally entertaining assortment of dining and excursions. The beautiful Spokane Falls is situated within walking distance to many of the downtown restaurants and pubs, as well as the Riverfront Park. The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist draws many architectural fans for it's distinct reminder of classical Gothic buildings. If you are a Bing Crosby fan, you'll love getting to see a live show at the Bing Crosby Theater where the man himself used to perform regularly.

Your bus rental, however, can take you to far more places than the big cities. Perhaps you are looking for an outdoor oasis. In that case, visit one of the three national parks that call Washington home. Olympic National Park, located on the Olympic Peninsula, is home to rainforests, ancient groves, rocky beaches, and snow-capped mountains. There is plenty to see and hike. Mt. Rainier National Park, located about two and a half hours from Seattle, is an active volcano with wide fields of wildflowers, black bears, and geological oddities. A calmer trip can be enjoyed in the North Cascades National Park, which has hundreds of miles of hiking trails with pristine views of valleys and peaks.

The Mount Saint Helens National Volcanic Monument is a shocking look at life and geography after a volcanic eruption. Spirit Lake, still filled with thousands of downed tree logs, is now beginning to show signs of life and growth. The landscape, where broken and bent-over trees are not covering, has small green saplings coming up. Tourists are able to drive up to several different viewpoints of the crater, and there is hiking available.

The other side of Saint Helens features the incredible Ape Caves, discovered by a farmer who fell into the caves while riding his tractor. This one-mile hike is a popular destination for amateur spelunkers and families, but be sure to bring along your lantern or headlamp. Access to the hike is free.

While driving through Washington, enjoy some of the countries most scenic road trips. The North Cascades Highway runs along blue-green lakes, fertile valleys, and snowy mountains. There are numerous spots where you can step out, stretch, and enjoy the view. The highway even runs through Winthrop, a town themed after the Western days. Another excellent drive is the Mount Baker Highway. This trip takes you through 60 miles of national forest land filled with hiking trails. You can stop and walk to waterfalls, overlooks, and scenic forest picnic areas.

Whatever your goals are for a good trip or vacation, Washington has what it takes to make the whole party happy. Let everyone choose their favorite, and you are bound to have a trip full of beautiful views, excellent food and drink, and incredible adventure.
