Jose was assigned as our driver. The bus was great. It wasn't a brand spanking new bus but it was certainly professional and the service received from Jose was so nice

Things To Do in Los Angeles

Beaches

The mecca of fun in the sun and sand encourages lounging by the Pacific Ocean. You can travel to the Western shore and head up north or down south for hours to encounter some of the country's finest beaches. One of the more noteworthy is Santa Monica State Beach. Relax on 245 acres of sand, ride on the bike paths, or stroll through the pier with its amusement park. If you've got the time, you can even learn surfing. About three miles south is Venice Beach, where the main draws are the people who congregate there. Come on a sunny weekend day to observe the greatest variety of L.A. denizens. Musclemen work out at the outdoor gym, skateboarders rush past, and singing grandmothers vie for your dollar. Buy a souvenir from the many hawkers or grab some refreshment from the many bars and restaurants fronting the concrete boardwalk.

Hollywood

If the streets of the city look familiar to you, it's because you've seen them in countless movies, TV shows, and videos. Begin your pilgrimage to the entertainment capital on Hollywood Boulevard and enjoy the Walk of Fame. See if you can find your favorite entertainer's star embedded in the sidewalk. Take the Walk to the Chinese Theater and compare your footprints and hand prints with those embedded in concrete belonging to the likes of Marilyn Monroe, Jackie Chan, and Joan Crawford. A good place to see the iconic Hollywood Sign is from the rear patio of the northeast corner at Highland Mall, which is located at the corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Highland. For the low-down on how movies are made, head to Universal Studios Hollywood. Its Studio Tour takes you into actual working sets and you may catch a celebrity or two. You'll also enjoy thrill rides and live spectacles.

Theme Parks

While Disneyland spawned a theme park empire around the world, there's nothing like coming back to the original. Every member of the family will find something to enjoy, whether it's a lovable character, a movie-based ride, or a funny musical. And don't forget to make time for California Adventure. The attractions here celebrate the Golden State, making them unique among all Disney properties. As its staff is quick to point out, Knott's Berry Farm is older (and not too far) from Disneyland. While this theme park does offer live entertainment and themed attractions, its strong points are its roller coasters and thrill rides that propel you forward, backward, and upside down. Have lunch at Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant for a taste of the fried fowl that started it all.

Museums

If you want a change from L.A.'s numerous outdoor venues, try one of its many museums. Start with the Petersen Automotive Museum, an homage to car culture. Featured exhibits include classic cars that seem more like sculpture than transportation, race cars from the Nearburg Collection, and the Disney/Pixar Cars Mechanical Institute, where you can virtually create and race your own ride. Just a short walk away is the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. You'll need an entire afternoon to enjoy a collection that spans Ancient Egypt to contemporary California. Traveling exhibits are also frequent and every-changing. Another world-class collection of art along with spectacular views is available at The Getty Center, which is perched on a hill overlooking the city. You'll be wowed by Old Masters from Europe, modern pieces from the USA, imaginative architecture, and soothing gardens.

Shopping

Complete your trip with some serious shopping at world-renown streets and consumer centers. Bring plenty of cash to Rodeo Drive, where the wealthy ascend from their valet-parked Aston Martins and Ferraris to visit luxury retailers like Ermenegildo Zegna, Versace, and Tiffany & Co. There's no charge to admire the high-priced goods shining from well-kept shop windows. If you want more accessible clothing and accessories, head to Melrose Avenue for the trendiest styles. For the traditional Southern California indoor mall experience, come to South Coast Plaza. It offers more than 250 retailers ranging from small boutiques to large department stores at prices ranging from mid-range to high.
