About Dallas

It's the ninth largest city in the United States and the third largest city in Texas. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metropolitan area, which is ranked as the fifth largest metropolitan area in the states. It is the number one destination for visitors and conventions in Texas. It's known as a major financial, commercial, and marketing city with almost 10 of the fortune 500 companies located there. Companies such as Southwest Airlines, Texas Instruments, and Haliburton are headquartered in the city. Of course it's famous for their professional football team, The Dallas Cowboys, and their gorgeous cheerleaders. The Mavericks, the city's professional basketball team, the Rangers, the city's professional baseball team, and the Stars, the city's professional hockey team is all located in the area.

It's also very famous as the city where President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. Its downtown's Sixth Floor Museum located at Dealey Plaza commemorates the very site he was shot and later died. Other well-known museums include the Museum of Art, Perrot Museum of Nature and Science, and the Crow Collection where Asian Art dates back thousands of years. The Nasher Sculpture Center is where you'll find contemporary sculptures. The Arboretum and Botanical Gardens is the number one top attraction to visit. The 66-acre garden is by the shores of White Rock Lake and is beautiful year-round. It's also a place where you'll find frequent concerts, weddings, and special exhibits.

Performing Arts

The AT&T Performing Arts center is a $354-million multi-venue center located downtown in the Arts District. It recently opened in October, 2009 and is now the major home of musical theater, classic and experimental theater, opera, ballet, and other forms of dance. Included in the center are four venues: Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House, Dee and Charlies Wylie Theatre, Annette Straus Square and an urban park, Elaine D. and Charles A. Sammons Park.

The State Fair

Held annually at the end of September through most of October, the state fair is amazing! This 277-acre Fair Park is jam packed with fair food, exhibits, and all sorts of rides. The Texas Star, a 212 foot Ferris wheel is the most popular ride, and it's the only state fair to have a full blown auto show. The Texas Skyway is a gondola ride that transports visitors around the park with a construction cost of $5 million. Big Tex has been the fair's mascot since 1952. He's a whopping 55-ft. cowboy. As they say, “Everything's bigger in Texas.” It's also where the Cotton Bowl is located, the stadium where the Cowboys used to play and is now the site of the annual Cotton Bowl classic football game.

Ft. Worth

As part of the Metroplex, Ft. Worth was the end of the Chisholm Trail and was an important place as a trading post for cowboys. It's now famous for the Stockyards National Historic District where rodeos take place, and is where the National Cowgirl Museum pioneers are honored at the Hall of Fame. If you're a racecar fan, two Nascar Sprint Cup events are held at the Texas Motor Speedway: the Duck Commander 500 and the AAA Texas 500. The track is 1.5 miles, built in an oval shape. A visit to Ft. Worth isn't complete until you've been to the world's largest honkey-tonk nightclub, Billy Bob's. It has an indoor rodeo arena, mechanical bulls, several bars, as well as a huge dance floor. It's a great place to go to hear country music and concerts.

With so many places to see and visit, you'll want to experience it all. Take a charter bus or bus rental to explore the area. It's worth letting someone else do the driving while you're able to see all Dallas has to offer.
