Reviews

  • Court

We certainly wouldn't have been able to get a charter bus out of Greensboro without the help of Shofur. The customer service was great. Pricier but worth it.

  • Roger

5 star review all around. The staff certainly went above and beyond to find us a charter bus last minute. A reliable service not only in Greensboro, but all across the country.

Things To Do in Greensboro

CIVIL RIGHTS

Four brave African American students from North Carolina A&T College decided to make change by sitting at the all-white lunch counter at Woolworth's downtown in 1960. A quarter of the population of the city was African American and suffered ridiculous barriers to goods and services because of their skin color. That lunch counter is now preserved for visitors at the Woolworth's store in the International Civil Rights Center and Museum. This event made the national news after white men started fights to drag the students out of the store. It looks like it's ready for lunch, except for one section of the counter that is now in the Smithsonian. The counter and seats where the students sat is still in the museum in Greensboro. Your text to link... There were sit-ins and other protests about racial issues, and in 1963, another student at NC A&T was asked to join the ongoing protests against desegregation. It just happened to be Jesse Jackson.

THE COLISEUM

Every year, except 2016, the Coliseum has NCAA playoffs for ACC teams. Elvis performed here in 1959. Everyone plays here. It's all redone and updated with a new aquatics center. Check the schedule in case you can catch an event while you're in Greensboro. Your text to link...

STAMEY'S AT THE COLISEUM

Right across Gate City Boulevard (really, High Point Road) from the Coliseum, Stamey's Old Fashioned BBQ is a great reason to visit this city. A US president has eaten here. Calvin Trillin wrote about Stamey's in the "New Yorker" magazine. It's in the BBQ bible book. This vinegar-based sauce is good enough to drink. On hickory-smoked pork, sliced or finely chopped, it is a trip to heaven. It is still owned and run by the Stamey family. Stamey's even roasts its own coffee. They don't skimp on any of the food on the menu. The iced tea is well nigh perfect; okay, it is perfect. Tides Inn on down High Point Road has great fresh seafood and is worth a trip, but do try Stamey's. The hush puppies are worth a drive all by themselves, and the cobbler of the day is scrumptious. DOWNTOWN

An active downtown for living, working, shopping and dining has been revived since the 1990s. There are public events just about every month of the year, and First Friday happens on the first Friday of every month, 6:00-9:00 pm. Local artists and entertainers display and perform in art galleries, museums, studios, shops and other venues downtown in a festive atmosphere that draws residents and visitors alike. Restaurants welcome the extra business during the evening.

FRIENDLY CENTER

This lovely shopping and dining area has a long and varied list of stores and eateries in an outdoor shopping center venue. There is also a 16-room cinema and park-like pedestrian sitting areas here and there. Opening in 1957, it has had quite a face-lift and looks brand new. A bus rental could take you and your family and friends here to browse and stroll while shopping and eating. Your text to link...

SCIENCE CENTER

This aquarium, zoo and museum is fun and interesting for all ages, and has plans to expand by 2020. Indoor exhibits and the outdoor zoo make it a good destination in any weather. The OmniSphere Theater, which is state-of-the-art, has a 40-foot high domed ceiling for digital, 3D and laser shows. The onsite Fresh Market Cafe offers healthy, tasty food, and the gift shop is fun, or a child-magnet.
