With five different beaches located within walking distance of most hotels and popular rental properties, you can easily find one just right for your group. Main Beach on Ocean Avenue is a popular spot because it has lifeguard stands staffed with professionals who will watch out for you, a snack bar for grabbing cold drinks and public bathrooms. While Egypt Beach doesn't offer as many amenities, it does have a quiet and peaceful feel that you might like.
History buffs love this community because it has so many historic sites and buildings. One of the most beautiful of those sites is the Osborn-Jackson House. Dating back to the 18th century, the Osborn family and their descendants lived in this for nearly three centuries before selling to the Jacksons. The couple quickly set about restoring the house to its former glory before opening it to the public. While you can take a virtual tour online, it won't compare to the way this gorgeous home looks in person.
Another gorgeous historic former home in the area is the Pollock-Krasner House & Study Center. Once home to a large farm and local family, the house now features the name of two local artists who bought the property in the 1940s and turned it into their own private artists colony. The couple lived there until the wife sold the house to the city after her husband's death. The city turned the home into a public art museum and learning space. After touring the home and seeing the artwork on display, you might want to enroll in one of the classes offered on-site.
If you want to experience nature at its best, plan a trip to the LongHouse Reserve. The LongHouse Reserve combines nature and art in one gorgeous spot. The reserve has 16 acres of space that is open to the general public. You'll find amazing sculptures that you can actually touch, sit on and use as you wander through the public spaces. There are even sculptures in the shape of benches that let you relax and enjoy the nature around you. Some of these pieces date as far back as the 1960s. Make sure you stop by Peter's Pond to see the flowers floating on the pond and the animals racing around the water.
You can also commune with nature at the Cedar Point County Park. This park is the perfect example of how you can find peace and quiet in even a big city. The East Hampton landmark covers more than 600 acres of land and has a number of campsites available for those who want to spend the night close to the water. You can get permits that let you drive on the beach, go fishing or even try your hand at hunting. Other activities available at the park include boating, picnicking, hiking and scuba diving.
One of the oldest private clubs in the city is the Maidstone Club. Established in 1891, this is a private club open to locals who love golfing. Though it initially only had a small seven hole golf course on site, it later expanded to include a nine hole course and an 18 hole course. To play on these greens, you must either be a member or join a group of members. While becoming a member is nearly impossible for those visiting, you can still take a trip out to the club. The large clubhouse located in the center of the property is worth the trip alone.
East Hampton is the type of city that you must see for yourself. You never know when you might see a model, actor or even celebrity chef standing in line next to you at the grocery store. Take one of our buses to explore all the great attractions nearby, including parks, museums, beautiful beaches and historic residences.
