Why Rent a Bus in Reno?

The Reno skyline at night

Reno used to lay along America’s first coast-to-coast highways, and the brightly lit arch that bears the city’s name commemorated the completion of those highways. It’s probably not a surprise, then, that Reno is a car-heavy city. Although there are public buses, most people rely on taxis, rideshares, or private vehicles. Here are a few advantages and disadvantages to each transportation method:

  • Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe: Reno shares its public buses with the rest of Washoe County. Taking public transit is affordable and environmentally friendly, but it’s not the fastest or most convenient way to get around, and you have to plan your day based on the bus schedule.
  • Taxis and rideshares: Taxis and Ubers/Lyfts can be lifesavers if you need a quick ride directly to your destination. However, if you’re with a large group, you’ll need to order multiple vehicles. This isn’t just expensive—it also requires your group to split up, which can be hard to do when you’re traveling with kids.
  • Charter buses: Like taxis and rideshares, charter buses can take you straight to where you want to go, and they’re more environmentally friendly than everyone driving separately. Charter buses also allow you to keep your entire group together. They can be expensive, though, so you may need to split the cost among your group.

Corporate Events in Reno

People clapping at conference

Like Las Vegas, Reno draws large groups of corporate travelers attending trade shows, conferences, and seminars. Many of those events take place at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center, which has 600,000 square feet of meeting space on a single level.

You’ll also find many corporate events inside Reno’s casinos. The Atlantis Casino Resort Spa boasts an entire floor of conference space as well as on-site rooms and dining, and Eldorado at the Row offers a ballroom, 3 boardrooms, and multiple breakout rooms along with hotel rooms and a casino.

Weddings in Reno

Bride and groom touching foreheads

Like Vegas, Reno has plenty of wedding chapels for quick ceremonies and elopements. But the city also has elegant venues for large-scale weddings that you’ve spent months planning. If you love history, you can hold your ceremony at The Elm Estate, an 1880s farmhouse on the Truckee River that offers views of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. This 300-person wedding space also comes with multiple bars and catering bays.

Looking for a more modern setting? Try The Club at ArrowCreek, a country club and golf course. You can have an outdoor ceremony on the greens accompanied by a reception in the Terrace Room, or you can take advantage of two brand-new event venues opening in 2021. Your charter bus rental will carry all of your guests from their hotel to the ceremony and back so you don’t have to worry about anyone getting lost or searching for a DD.

Sporting Events in Reno

Skier racing down slope

Reno’s most popular sports team is the Reno Aces, a minor league affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks who play at Greater Nevada Field. If you’d like to head out to the ballgame, you can book a comfortable, air-conditioned charter bus to drop your group of fans off at the stadium.

More into participating in sports than watching them? Thanks to its proximity to Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Reno is a popular destination for skiing. If you don’t feel like driving up to Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe, let your bus driver take care of navigating the roads to this more than 8,000-foot-high resort with 1,260 acres of ski trails.

Field Trips in Reno

Jaguar at Animal Ark

Nevada has plenty of educational destinations for groups with kids, and the National Automobile Museum is one of the most popular. Located in the heart of the Reno Riverwalk District, this museum displays more than 200 cars that date back as far as the late 1800s. Let your students pose in a model car while wearing an old-fashioned duster and hat, or take them to see cars owned by celebrities like Andy Griffith, Sammy Davis Jr., Lana Turner, and Elvis Presley.

Outside of central Reno you’ll find the Animal Ark, a sanctuary for wildlife who were injured, orphaned, or raised in captivity. Your students will learn about how animals are cared for when they can’t return to the wild and meet cheetahs, lynx, raccoons, kit foxes, and bears. Typically guests walk along a one-mile granite and dirt trail to meet all of the animals, but if you have people in your group who aren’t able to walk that far, golf carts are available by request.

The Great Reno Balloon Race

Hot air balloons at Great Reno Balloon Race

Every September, the world’s largest free hot-air balloon festival takes over the skies above Reno. The Great Reno Balloon Race lasts four days and typically features more than 100 balloons (including the famous Darth Vader balloon!) For a truly special experience, take your group to the festival in the early morning for the Dawn Patrol, where the balloons take off as the sun rises.

Because this festival draws around 12,000 spectators each year, it can be difficult to find parking. If you travel in a single charter bus, you won’t have to find parking for separate cars and your driver can drop you off before searching for a spot.

The Great Reno Balloon Race

Address: San Rafael Regional Park, Rancho Connector, Reno, NV 89503

Charter bus parking: The Great Reno Balloon Race offers public parking for $20.

Frequently Asked Questions

The answer is: it depends. When you call one of our 24/7 reservation specialists with your trip details, they will build a quote for you based on a few factors, including how far you'll be traveling, which bus you rent, how many hours or days you will need the rental, and where and when you will be picked up. Depending on your trip itinerary, your rental cost will be broken down by hour, day, or mile.

You can learn more on our charter bus pricing page, and your reservation specialist will be happy to break down pricing further when you call.

Our network offers full-size charter buses, minibus rentals, and sprinter vans. Full-size charter bus rentals are great for larger groups or longer distance trips and can accommodate up to 56 passengers, while minibus rentals work well for medium-sized groups of 12 to 25 passengers. Groups even smaller than that can rent a sprinter van, which comfortably accommodates up to 12 people.

Visit our buses page to learn more about the charter bus options available in Shofur's network.

Every bus model in our network comes with their own special amenities and capabilities, including but not limited to:

  • WiFi and/or power outlets
  • A/C and heating
  • TV monitors and a DVD player
  • Onboard restrooms
  • AM/FM radio
  • Overhead storage bins
  • Luggage bays
  • ADA accessible features

If you have a specific amenity request, be sure to let your reservation specialist know and they will be happy to work with you to find the best bus for your group.

When you call to get a free, no-obligation quote, you will get a number that is transparent and all-inclusive. Below is a list of components your quote covers:

  • The bus itself
  • A professional charter bus driver
  • The bus's mileage and fuel
  • Insurance
  • Tolls
  • Processing fees

Remember that your quote will not include certain aspects that are out of Shofur's control or at your own discretion, such as:

  • Gratuity for your driver (at your discretion, typically 5-10% of the total cost of the rental)
  • Parking fees
  • Lodging for your driver (required for multi-day trips)

No. Your professional, trained, and highly experienced charter bus driver will take care of all the driving so you can sit back and relax during your journey. Each charter bus driver has undergone numerous background checks and driving tests to ensure their safety and expertise.

Yes. A fee of 10% of the total cost of the trip is due at the time of your booking.

Your rental will need to be paid in full 7 days before your trip date.

Most charter bus providers will allow you to drink on your bus. However, be sure to let your reservation specialist know so that they can determine for sure. Also, be mindful about not leaving a mess behind, or you may be subject to a cleaning fee that is usually $250.
