Things To Do in Boston

Places To Visit in Boston

Boston, Massachusetts is an iconic city that has made a name for itself from the very beginning of the United States of America's history. The urban area of the city is home to more than four million people, making it the single largest city in New England. History buffs will remember its legacy through key points related to the American revolution, including the Boston Tea Party and the Battle of Bunker Hill.

A Center of Education

For families who want to take their children to college visits, the city serves as a hub for numerous high caliber universities. Some of the key schools located near the city's metro area include Brandeis University, Harvard University, MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), Northeastern University, Tufts University, and many more. Harvard is perhaps the most famous of the renowned Ivy League schools. The alumni include a list of famous individuals, including eight US presidents, dozens of billionaires, and over 300 Rhodes Scholars. Nearly 150 Novel Prize winners have been associated with the school at some point. MIT is an epicenter for sciences and mathematics. It's also home to prominent teachers of economics, linguistics, and biology, including the well-known academic Noam Chomsky.

Baseball

The rivalry between the New York Yankees and the Red Sox is legendary. Both teams have experienced major success over the years. Visitors can check out Fenway Park, which has been in operation since 1912. It holds the distinction of being the oldest ballpark in Major League Baseball. 50-minute tours are offered daily. Fans will be familiar with the "Green Monster." It's a high left field wall that is often targeted by right-handed hitters. Since the height is so prominent, hitters who would normally smash home runs out the park may have a tough time dealing with the park.

Historical Sights

A bus rental will give visitors a chance to journey through the famous streets of the city and explore iconic historical sights. Over 50 locations are labeled as National Historic Landmarks within Boston itself, and neighboring regions of Massachusetts offer an additional 131 landmarks. The African Meeting House , also known as the First African Baptist Church, stands as the oldest black church edifice still in existence in the US today. The famous architect and city planner Frederick Law Olmsted designed the Arnold Arboretum in 1872. If you're a fan of libraries, consider visiting the city's Athenaeum on Beacon Hill. It houses one of the largest and oldest private libraries in the country. The Bunker Hill Momument is located in Charlestown, and it holds the distinction of hosting the Battle of Bunker Hill in 1775. According to historians, the British came away with the victory, but at huge personal loss. The battle gave the colonies an increased drive to power on forward after they severely weakened the British troops.

Museums

A wide variety of cultural venues are situated within the city. The Museum of Science has around 500 different interactive exhibits. You can experience a simulated journey around the Internal Space Station. You can take a look at Mars via the museum's advanced planetarium. Take a ride on the fighter plane dubbed the F-5 Tiger. The Sports Museum offers a whirlwind tour of New England's legendary sports teams, including the New England Patriots, the Celtics Basketball), the Bruins (hockey), and the Red Sox (baseball). It's located right in the center of the TD Garden , which serves as the arena for Celtics games throughout the year. Notably, the Celtics hold an NBA record for the most championships. Basketball fans will surely be familiar with the famous players that have graced the hardwood of TD Garden, including Bill Russel, Bob Cousy, John Havlicek, Robert Parish, and Kevin McHale. Some of the prominent recent players include Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and Isaiah Thomas. You'd be hard pressed to find a more successful city for sports.
