Interesting Things to See and Do This beach-side city has everything for a warm destination all in one place. The beaches have sand that feels like silk sliding between your toes. It is brilliant white against the emerald waters- a stunning match. Sunsets are free and priceless.
If you happen to be on the beach early in the morning or in the evening, you may have the privilege of seeing The Blue Angels fly over on training maneuvers. The NAVY is very proud of their aerial acrobatic team and with good reason. Since this city is home to a Naval base, you will also see loads of uniformed men. Not only should you visit the beach to catch glimpses of the flight team, but you should also visit the National Naval Aviation Museum.
The National Naval Aviation Museum is filled with planes suspended high overhead. There are lovingly restored planes that have fought wars, survived enemy fire and even jetted into space. Displays of love letters from wives to their deployed husbands are both poignant and heart-breaking. See flight suits. Ride in the flight simulator. Bob Hope exhibits and women who helped out in the war efforts are also there in the chronicles of history. Walk through the maze of displays and feel the intensity of young men on death missions. The raw emotions may surprise you. Leave with a new respect for our people in uniform.
The Gulf of Mexico entices anglers from all over the world. The Pensacola Beach Gulf Pier is a fantastic place with over 1470 feet of pier that spans two sand bars. Here, fishing is amazing. Brown and cow rays, sharks, crabs and dolphins are just some of the marine life you may see while out on the pier. The vantage point is beautiful even if you aren't an angler. Bring your camera and capture 'the big one' being reeled in. See amazing sunsets. This pier sells tackle, coolers, snacks and bait- everything you need for a great day of fishing.
Do you love fresh seafood? Shrimp on the grill, blackened sea bass, flounder- these things are all delicious, but especially so when they are fresh from the sea. Pensacola has a very special place to buy your seafood. Joe Patti's literally hauls the boat up beside the market and unloads the fresh fish. A block away from the market you can enjoy Flounder baskets with crispy hush puppies at the restaurant with the same name.
Pensacola is loaded with bars and entertainment options. Stop at MacGuires Irish Pub for a drink and make some friends. Check out the Flora-Bama Lounge for a hodge-podge of everything, live bands, drinks, colorful people- it's all there. An oyster bar on the deck, a gift shop and guitar pickers everywhere, yet somehow they all go together here.
Whether you need the solitude of a sunset on a quiet beach chair, or the roar of jets overhead and the thrill of seeing airplanes climb and turn- it's here. We are waiting for you to hop on that bus and come see us!
